Joséphine and Frédéric Arnaud took over this super property in 1995, and make wines of real warmth, generosity and purity of fruit. Set high in the hills above the village of Tresques (to the north-west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape) the Arnauds have 90 hectares of syrah and grenache vines from which they make their enduringly popular Laudun. Laudun itself is where the Romans first camped when they landed in the south of France - and they knew a thing or two about making wine!
Château Courac
About the vineyard...
Laudun has for many years been one of the southern Rhône’s ‘named’ village appellations - sites of superior quality permitted to add the village name to the Côtes-du Rhône Villages label. Laudun has recently been recognised and elevated even further – acheiving full appellation controlee status, and putting it in the same bracket as Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas.
About the winemakers...
Joséphine and Frédéric Arnaud took over this super property in 1995, and quality here has gone from strength to strength. Having completed his studies, son Cyril is now taking a more active role in all aspects of the domaine.

Our history with Château Courac...
Château Courac is one of Laudun’s leading estates, and has been a staple of our Rhône portfolio for nearly 20 years. Set high in the hills above the village of Tresques (to the north-west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape) the Arnaud family has 90 hectares of syrah and grenache vines from which they make their enduringly popular Laudun rouge. A small quantity of (delicious) white is also made here, from viognier, marsanne, roussanne and grenache blanc.
A history lesson...
A tasting with the Arnauds can quickly digress into a history lesson – Laudun was one of the first Roman encampments in France, and Joséphine could talk for hours about the region’s archeological discoveries – she was naturally very interested to hear about the similar ancient history of our own home town of Colchester.
