Simon W | 2018 Pinot Noir, Esk Valley, Marlborough
The Esk Valley Pinot Noir 2018 knocked me sideways as to how good a wine it is, so much so that I served it at my summer tasting for the first time. It has the usual pale red colour to it but do not be misled by the colour, for once on the palate the ripe morello flavours abound. It is so smooth and elegant with absolutely no hard edges to it and it has a classy lingering finish.
Knocking on the door of many expensive Pinot Noirs from Burgundy (or New Zealand), this is an exquisite wine for the price. To me it tastes more like a pedigree Red Burgundy and the price is right!
