The 2022 Saint-Véran is a beautifully pure looking wine in the glass, with delicate floral aromas, a hint of peach, pear and honeysuckle.
The palate really matches the nose, with elegant layers of tropical fruit, white peach, honeysuckle and a hint of orange peel leading to a long, dry finish with a freshening citrus 'zing'.
Jean-François Gonon has put oak barrels to one side, instead favouring the use of stainless steel to preserve the delicate fruit character. Yet despite this there's a welcome texture on the palate, this is as a result of extended aging on the lees, resulting in a slightly softer, more rounded mouth feel.
It's drinking beautifully now, and I really think there will be some further development in the bottle over the coming year with greater textured and complexity building.
This is certainly a delicious glass of wine on it's own but equally lovely accompanying a plethora of lighter summer dishes.
