2022 Pouilly-Loché 'Aux Barres', Laurent Cognard
An attractive, lightly golden shimmer greets you upon pouring and with little encouragement, pronounced aromas of mature orchard fruit, citrus, and lightly toasted hazelnut lift from the glass, framed by a seam of warming, herbaceous French oak.
The palate is absolutely charming, with ripe, mature, orchard fruit, a touch of the exotic by way of subtle white peach and a slightly pithy character, with delicate notes of clove and spice leading to a warming, rounded core of barrel-infused, toasty hazelnut.
There's a delicate, almost creamy feel to the mid-palate that's then punctuated with a gently freshening citrus fruit zip, partially cleansing the palate, whilst allowing the mature orchard fruit and toasty warmth re-emerge on the very lengthy finish.
Any wine enthusiast who's captivated by the charm and elegance of fine white Burgundy, particularly in the elegant style of Chassagne Montrachet, will find much to love in a glass of 2022 Pouilly-Loché 'Aux Barres', not least the price!
