2004 Amery Vineyards Hillside Shiraz, Kay Brothers, Mclaren Vale
I had barely removed the cap from the bottle when the aromas were already in full effusion; indeed, the customary glass-swirling antics to release them were not necessary for so voluptuous a shiraz. Aromas of sweet dark fruit, violet florals, spice, smoky oak
Swathes of pure, ripe black current, spice and dark coffee surge across the palate, intermingled with warming, sweet, smoky oak. Tannins are soft and supple, gripping gently as the fruit hangs on the palate, with warming power and concentration.
This is a mightily impressive, opulent wine, a solo glass of which will provide deep, long-lasting drinking pleasure. When served alongside hearty stew, grilled meats, harder cheeses, game and other full-flavoured menus, its certain to wow.

Marvellous aged Aussie Shiraz. Loved this wine - unfortunately, they’d sold out when I tried to re-order
Bags of character, fantastic bouquet, lovely fruit despite its age and a looong finish. Distinctly Penfolds-like in style but a tad more robust and assertive ... not quite as balanced I'd say, but hugely enjoyable. I'd wager this will still be delightful in 10 years time and may have softened a little ... I'll report back in due course :-)
For my tastes , an absolutely stunning wine. Still fresh and satisfyingly complex , both in aroma and taste. Full bodied and very enjoyable. One of my all time favourites.
