2018 Château Meaume 'Reserve du Château', Bordeaux Superieur
Bordeaux 2018 was a particularly good vintage for merlot - especially at Château Méaume where their 'Réserve du Château' is sourced from their oldest vines. Merlot vines each at an average age of 50+ years, whose low yields make for a wonderfully rich, concentrated wine. Tasting the 2018 we were deliciously reminded of just how rich, how concentrated, and dazzled by how beautifully the vintage is now drinking. Thrilled by the power and depth that assures it at least another ten years of glorious cellaring.
It’s drinking just as beautifully for those at robertparker.com:
"Composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Méaume gives up wild blueberries, baked cherries and garrigue scents with suggestions of pencil lead, stewed tea and wild sage. Medium-bodied, it has a taut, muscular palate with lovely vibrancy and soft, rounded tannins, finishing with an herbal lift."
