2022 Pinot Noir 'Peter Max' Crystallum, Western Cape
A pretty, yet unmistakably serious pinot noir from Crystallum. There is an abundance of red fruit, most notably wild strawberries, rhubarb and cherry. Savoury notes of earthiness, cloves and tree bark give yet more complexity to the wine. The finish is all crushed mulberries and salted cherries making it dangerously moreish. This is without doubt at the top end of South African pinot noir and will age gracefully for the next eight to ten years.
For anyone who is looking for a classic example of a South African Pinot, this wine is a must! Complex aromas of spices and red fruit. Neither oaky nor jammy. Medium(-) body. Some bitterness in the finish and of medium length. Overall a high quality new world pinot noir.
