2022 Sancerre Rouge 'Domaine des Côtes Blanches', Nicolas Millet
Lovely pale red in the glass, with a real sense of purity, clarity and elegance, with seductive aromas of raspberry, ripe red cherry and subtle smokey notes easily teased from the glass.
The palate offers ripe raspberry coulis, with a hint of mint leaf and very delicate, prickly spice and a delicate wisp of smokiness and seasoned oak emerge on the finish, but it's the fruit character and subtle warmth that hang long on the palate.
Over time a fine tannic grip surfaces which is creamy-smooth, offering just a brief tickle, but it's the elegant, red-berry fruit, freshness and subtle warmth that re-emerge and take centre stage on the finish.
This really is an elegant, pure expression of pinot noir. The exquisite quality that we've come to expect of Nicolas Millet's white wines is equally evident and impressive in this red offering.
