1994 Marqués de Riscal, Rioja Reserva

On the nose very meaty and savoury, black fruit with notes of mushrooms, forest floor and winter spice in fact it is such an appealing and complex nose it is -almost- reluctantly that one moves on to take a sip! Moving on to the palate is rewarded by an excellent volume and power, the tannins firm yet ripe and perfectly melded with the seamless and velvety texture.

There is such lovely energy there! It just lingers on and on, with some notes of red fruit acidity coming through on the finish What a wine! A perfect example of what our Australian friends at Penfolds would call The Rewards of Patience.
