2023 Domaine de la Jasse, Vieilles Vignes Rouge, Languedoc |

£203.40/12-bottle case

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From the Montpellier environs and one of the Languedoc’s finest. A predominantly cabernet sauvignon cuvée with a splash of syrah for a fragrant, finely poised nose of ripe cassis, blackberry and dark berry coulis, layered with liquorice, subtle woodsmoke and sweet spice. On the palate, generous and supple, with ripe blackcurrant and plum lifted by bright acidity from cooler nights. Fine-grained, integrated tannins add structure and length, delivering a harmonious, elegant Vieilles Vignes of warmth, freshness and balance.

“Very good wine.” (previous vintage) – Geoff

“Lovely wine when you want something tasty but not posh - really lovely complexity of flavour and fruit, with the sunshine of the south of France making this my go-to red wine to have with a weeknight meal. Tastes much more expensive than it is!” (previous vintage) – John

“A most enjoyable wine, smartly presented. Very happy to deal with Mr. Wheeler, good communications and quality wines.” (previous vintage) – Noel

2024 Sauvignon de Touraine, Domaine Bellevue, Loire | £12.95/bottle

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Grown in Touraine in the middle of the Loire Valley, this is a good alternative for those of you who do not wish to stretch your budget to the likes of a Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé, which, incidentally, this gold medal-winning wine is on a par with. The Domaine de Bellevue 2022 is made from 100% sauvignon blanc and it offers a delicate fusion of exotic fruit and balanced citrus notes with a persistent fresh dry finish, this is a wine which never fails to impress. Truly unmissable.

“Purchased after seeing this as Wine of the Week. Would not be my usual choice of grape but very pleased I bought a bottle and tried it. Much smoother and creamier than other Sauvignon I’ve had in the past and plenty of body. A really nice everyday white and I’d definitely repurchase.” Hannah

“Beautifully balanced. Perfect for those of us who are bored of overly fragrant and light Sav Blanc. Has plenty of body and is smooth on the palate yet retains the fresh nose of a Sav Blanc.” (previous vintage) – Peter C

“Delicious. This is a fleshy wine with a delicious taste of tropical fruit and greengage. Smoother than the more acidic New World wines.” (previous vintage) – Peter Devlin

NV Pierre Courtois Champagne, Brut | £24.95/bottle

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Unbelievably, this exquisite ‘grower champagne’ is still almost half the price of so many grandes marques today. Indeed, the best way to find value for money in Champagne these days is by knocking on the doors of small, dedicated single growers like this. As we have. Where here, Team Courtois’ meticulously tended, mere six hectares of vines produce a consistently elegant champagne punching well above its weight. Wonderfully fresh, with an enviable complexity of flavour and length, theirs is a vibrant, detailed, simply irresistible fizz.

“Lovely champagne, exceedingly good value. We find some champagnes, not that we try many, are quite tart and acidic but this is certainly not! It’s very drinkable.” and “This champagne represents terrific value and is quite delightful. We enjoy immensely and are normally red wine fans!!!”Roger Allen

“Delighted with purchase, great value quality product.” Christina

2023 Margaux Declassified | £27.95/bottle

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From the vineyards and cellars of a leading Margaux Cru Classé château and made from the estate’s own fruit and vinified, matured and bottled by its world-class winemaking team. This is a declassified cuvée — released separately from the château’s official portfolio and, by agreement, without the château’s name on the label.

This anonymity is precisely what allows this wine to be offered at such an exceptional price.

Not the château’s flagship grand vin, but a wine that expresses the craftsmanship, finesse and prized Margaux character for which such an estate is internationally renowned.

Elegant, finely structured, with fresh red and blackcurrant fruit, supple tannins and a long, composed finish, this is a rare opportunity to experience top-tier Margaux expertise without paying for a top-tier label.

2006 Bodegas Urbina, Reserva Especial | £24.95/bottle

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A cuvée of 90% tempranillo, with graciano and mazuelo rounding out the blend, all sourced from the estate's finest parcels. After spending two years maturing in oak barrels, it is judiciously blended then further aged in bottle for well over a decade, far surpassing the ageing requirements of even the top Rioja classifications. The goal isn't simply to meet a standard – it's about creating the very best wine possible, a process that demands immense patience. For under £25 — and now with two decades behind it — here is an unmissable opportunity to experience truly mature Rioja. Experience it as it was meant to be.

2023 Rully Blanc Montagne La Folie, Domaine Claudie Jobard | £28.95

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Classic, fully sumptuous Rully (Côte Chalonnaise) expression offering a warming toastiness to the nose, a notable hint of citrus and clementine, and notes of almond and herb. Bold on the palate, weighty and full-bodied, with toasted almond, hazelnut and notes of dried orchard fruit. There's an element of delicate spice and minerality with a creaminess, almost buttery character to the finish which completes with a cleansing citrus zing. The finish is lengthy, warming and complex. Full-on, intense white Burgundy that is full-on sublime with rotisserie chicken.
