2015 Château Ramafort, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc
Having recently retasted the 2015 Château Ramafort, I would now strongly recommend that you begin exploring this outstanding, much-applauded vintage. The ripeness, fresh acidity, and well-structured tannins its stellar growing conditions provided are now coming into their own, as this Cru Bourgeois so deliciously demonstrates. What's more, if you'd swooned over the estate's successful 2010 vintage, you might just find their 2015 even better. Neal Martin at robertparker.com certainly does: Simply the best wine from Ramafort I have tasted thus far... Why so good? Because of the long stretches of thoroughly warm days and consistently cool nights that yielded such perfect cabernet and merlot fruit. When healthy levels of phenolic development enjoyed during the day were balanced by the refreshing levels of acidity lower night-time temperatures preserved and sustained. The result has been a Ramafort vintage that is generous, vibrant, and fresh little wonder we sold over 4,500 bottles sold upon release! - Johnny Wheeler, Chairman, Mr.Wheeler
2020 Cepas Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Penedo Borges, Mendoza
Expressive, fresh cassis fruit in abundance - quite an exuberant, aromatic style with a subtle note of cedar - classically cabernet sauvignon. Lovely warm plush palate with ripe, sweetish cassis fruit in abundance - but also excellent poise and structure. A nudge weightier than the malbec with fine-grained tannins. Suggested pairing: red meat, fillet mignon, lamb, mushroom risotto and cheddar.
2022 Lugana, Rizzardi, Lugana DOC
"I've long enjoyed the Veneto wines of Guerrieri Rizzardi and used to drink buckets of them with my dear pa, whose favourite Italian winery it was. The 2022 Guerrieri Rizzardi Lugana is as fine as ever, a blend of Trebbiano and splashes of Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco grown by Lake Garda. Steel-fermented and aged on the lees for three months, it's delicately peach blossom-scented and mouthwateringly fresh with concentrated white stone fruit and a long creamy finish."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
2011 Pinot Noir, La Crema, Anderson Valley, Mendocino
Upon pouring the wine displays the signature, delicate, pale-ruby colour which many will identify as fine pinot noir. There's a lovely note of maturity on the nose manifesting itself as aromas of leather, tea leaf and wood-smoke wrapped around a core of red berry fruit. The palate offers a swathe of delicate, sweet blackberry, with a hint of blueberry and spice, the fruit is punctuated by a notes of sweet oak which rounds off the finish. The tannins are fine, perfectly integrated and sit on the mid-palate allowing the a medley, akin to a summer fruit compote, laced with elegant, exotic spice to hang on the palate for an obscene amount of time. Perfectly mature and ready to deliver much drinking pleasure, but with the structure and complexity to develop further in the bottle, I have no doubt that those gamey, earthy nuances that lovers of pinot noir crave will emerge in the coming years but it's just so pleasurable as-is that I really don't see it lasting that long.
