2019 Rosé Extra Brut, Busi-Jacobsohn, Sussex
Another wonderfully elegant wine, with a delicate pale pink shimmer in the glass.
A fine persistent fizz releases aromas of wild strawberry and raspberry but still that underlying baked apple character which is so alluring in the Classic Cuvée along with a toasty charm.
Surprisinglythe palate offers a very slightly greater texture than the classic cuvée, it's still wonderfully elegant of course, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.Then a little research revealed the use of a tiny proportion of barrel fermented chardonnay in the blend.
It is a brave winemaker who chooses to barrel ferment a portion of the fruit when making a wine as delicate as fine sparkling rosé, but it works beautifully and further highlights the level of skill being deployed in the Busi-Jacobsohn winery.
The rosé is essentially the Classic Cuvée wrapped in an elegant veil of red berry fruit with a hint of additional weight to the palate, just stunning.
