2017 Sauternes (Half)
We all deserve a treat sometimes and indulgent sweet wines are exactly that, just like a slice of cake, or cheeky bar of chocolate - the simple fact is that sweet things do make us happy. The white dessert wines of the Sauternes are probably the best known in the world, and our 2017 Sauternes is made by one of the most famous sweet wine château of them all.
Johnathan Ray is also a fan and wrote "The 2017 Sauternes... produced at the most famous of all Sauternes estates and I can’t be more obvious than that. It doesn’t claim the rich, concentrated, oily succulence that the grand vin does but it’s hugely enjoyable nonetheless with a delicate barley sugar sweetness. And it’s made in just the same laborious manner - picked grape by grape after five, six or even seven passes through the vineyard - and must surely cost more to produce than they’re selling it for."
Made with the same attention to detail as the château’s grand vin label itself. The only rule is that we're not allowed to name the château involved to protect the grand vin brand perception, and this little secret gives us and you cellar-door access to fantastic 'declassified' wine. It will delight friends and family alike, and be the perfect finish after your Christmas dinner. It will continue to age becoming even more honeyed over the next 5-10 years, and continue to bring a smile for a long time to come.
Tasting notes:
The wine is wonderfully complex and is already quite delicious - it will last for a great many years. A golden hue of aromatic exotic fruit and citrus flavours. Complex, round and well balanced with a long and lingering finish that shows off its immense pedigree.
