2023 River Garden Sauvignon Blanc, Greenhough, Nelson

"The 2023 Greenhough River Garden Sauvignon Blanc from Nelson, NZ, is an old favourite of mine that I never tire of recommending. And don’t fret if rich, tropical, over-the-top Kiwi Savvy Blanc ain’t your thing, because this is anything but. Indeed, it's much closer to the Loire in style, with commendably restrained citrus fruit, with hints of cut grass and nettles and just a touch of melon and peach lurking in the long, elegantly textured finish."

Greenhough call this a classic top of the south style with its Marlborough-like profound passion fruit, melon and citrus. We also feel its excellent terroir, further west in Nelson, brings a touch of European class, with freshly cut grass and crushed aromatic herbs. A proportion of this cuvée is fermented in barrel, which adds a savoury, spicy textural character to the expressive tropical fruit. Fresh as a mountain stream, but also with some weight, and very appealing, almost creamy, rich texture. Very fine sauvignon.
