2021 Mâcon-Azé 'Vieilles Vignes', Les Reflets d'Ambre
Save £17.40 per case thanks to The Spectator Magazine
Laden with expansive orchard fruits, toasted oak, and a wonderfully long finish, it justifies why so often in the past it's been described as a 'mini-Meursault'.
Textured, complex, deeply flavoured with a richness of fruit, Reflets d'Ambre' nods to the 'king' of Burgundy even down to its amber-gold glint in the glass.
The warmth of the highly-rated vintage is evident in this 'mini-Meursault'; here, imparting a delightful prominence orchard fruit upon pouring. The Reflets dAmbre is produced with fruit from the Domaine's older vines, thus offering greater intensity and a depth of flavour that is enhanced further by some ageing on lees in fine, French oak barrels. There's a light, golden tint in the glass with aromas of clove, spice, and toasted brioche; the palate is laden with ripe, expansive citrus and orchard fruit flavours that linger long on the finish.
Great value. Delicious. Nutty. Buttery. Yum.
At its best, quite delicious: rich, round. Classic white Burgundy at a very good price. But there is some variation between bottles with some going over quite quickly, probably a mixture of age(2016is quite old for a cooperative) and some over tweaking by the winemaker.
Excellent value model Chardonnay from the Maconnais. Loved it and will buy again.
