2020 Château La Grace Dieu, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
If you prefer your claret a little juicier, rounder and more opulent, then Saint-Émilion is the place to look. Here on the right bank of the Gironde, merlot predominates (rather than slightly grainier cabernet sauvignon across the river in the Médoc) and the wines tend to be softer, with more exuberant plum and dark berry fruit - especially from such a warm, expressive vintage as 2020.
Our latest find, Château La Grace Dieu is a super example, hailing as it does from this five-star vintage. Its presence and showy style really caught my eye when I came across it in France earlier this year, so we made sure to ship a pallet straight away. Its on absolutely top form for current drinking - a really smart glass of claret.
