ABOUT THIS WINE
Read Critic Reviews

The Mâconnais is one of my favourite buying visits, and responsible for some of the best-value white burgundies around. Its a beautiful region, and exceptional cuvées can be found here at a fraction of the price of chardonnays further north in the Côte dOr.

One such is the delicious Saint-Véran les Ombrelles from the ever-reliable cellars of Maison Loron. Our latest shipment is from the five-star 2022 vintage. Its a wine that punches well above its weight, bringing us luscious citrus and stone fruit flavours with profound ripeness in perfect harmony with impressive poise and texture. A classy burgundy indeed tasted blind, this could be a good Pouilly-Fuissé.

Ben Godfrey, Buyer of Mr.Wheeler.

Tasting Note
A first-class effort from Loron, with proper Burgundian style. Pale gold in colour, with an alluring, aromatic nose of ripe pears, white peach, acacia and honeysuckle. Broad, rounded and harmonious on the palate - six months ageing in barrel adds a nutty richness, and a subtle, smoky spice.

What do the critics think?
“The 2022 Saint-Véran ‘Les Ombrelles’, Maison Jean Loron is a gem of a discovery in the portfolio of mighty Maison Jean Loron. Grown on a mix of limestone and grey marl, it’s aged for six months on the lees – partly in barrel – adding a roundness and depth to the honeyed, almondy, white stone fruit. It’s full-flavoured but with a correct, mineral core and is nothing if not top-notch.”
