2023 Bourgogne Blanc, Alain Chavy
2023 was another warm 'stable' vintage for the Puligny-Montrachet region, following nicely in the footsteps of 2022, that warmth and resulting ripeness of fruit evident in the glass, with lovely expressive fruit on both nose and palate.
Swish the glass and enjoy the faint golden sheen that greets you offering up aromas of ripe orchard fruit, apple and pear skin with a hint of citrus and faint oak warmth.
The palate follows the aromas, again this 2023 is quite fruit-forward and concentrated at this early stage, crisp orchard fruit, poached pear and apple evolving to a smooth creaminess on the lengthy, dry finish, punctuated with a crisp, freshening streak of minerality.
There's a lovely texture and weight, as with previous vintages only around 10% is vinified in older French oak barriques, so it really is down to the quality of fruit and winemaking skill which adds to the richness and delightful mouth-feel.
Another superb wine from Alain Chavy, such class and finesse it really encompasses the elegance and charm of the Puligny region, but at a very compelling price.
This follows perfectly in the footsteps of the delicious 2022 vintage that we offered earlier in the year (and very promptly sold out!)
