ABOUT THIS WINE
Read Critic Reviews

Two words – German and riesling. If you enjoy your white wines, then I’m sure you’re already thinking either “yes, please” or “no, not for me.” Simply because no other wine-producing nation or varietal generates such polarised opinions.

But as German-riesling converts will tell you, the country’s modern-day winemaking style is a world away from the Hocks and the Liebfraumilchs of the past. Instead, German rieslings quite rightly deserve their place at the top table of great white wines of the world. For not only are they incredibly versatile with cuisine but are also remarkably age worthy and produced in a dizzying array of styles.

One of these styles is enjoyed in the 2023 ‘Bone Dry’ Riesling found in our new range of wines from Weingut Reichstrat Von Buhl (Pfalz). Whether you’re already a Germanophile or someone yet to be persuaded, ‘Bone Dry’ is the perfect introduction.

It’s in the name – dry. And as in all great rieslings, a tantalising, zingy acidity that is beautifully refreshing in a cuvée showing a wealth of aromatic flavours which flourish with every sip. However, here are fewer of those typical flavours so often attributed to the varietal – petrol and/or rubber, as two examples (riesling fans will know what I mean). Instead, a lovely citrussy freshness of orange pith and grapefruit combining with floral hints of elderflower yet finishing with the kind of lip-smacking lime zest you find more in New World expressions.

Serve Von Buhl’s ‘Bone Dry’ well chilled on a hot summer’s day either on its own or with pretty much anything you will when drinking white – and at just 12%, it’s ideal for those keeping an eye on ABV percentages, too.

What do the critics think?
“With plenty of citrus and a hint of herbs on the nose, it is indeed bone dry and zesty in the mouth, with stone fruit, citrus and the faintest of refreshing prickles on the tongue.”
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
