2023 Barrique Blanc, Domaine de la Jasse, Languedoc
For a chardonnay from a warm vintage in France’s deep south, Bruno’s latest Barrique Blanc has exceptional finesse and elegance – the higher altitude of the Limoux region bringing a cooler, more even ripening period. Very inviting hue in the glass, with a distinct golden tinge.
The nose is expressive and perfumed, with bright orchard fruits to the fore, followed by a subtle suggestion of oak – with a touch of brioche, vanilla, clove and roasted nuts revealing themselves with a little time in the glass. Luscious and creamy in texture, Burgundian in style as ever, with very impressive balance. Ripe peach, pear and apricot fruit dovetailing expertly with a fine poise and structure and pristine citrusfresh finish. Another of Bruno’s masterclasses in how careful barrel-ageing enhances Burgundy’s iconic varietal so exquisitely.
