2021 'Henry's Seven', Henschke, Barossa Valley

Upon pouring I was instantly struck by the lovely purple, almost magenta hue in the glass as it swirls, accompanied by vibrant aromas of palmer violets, redcurrant, blueberry and spice.

The palate is a very elegant fusion of red berry fruit with a backdrop of blueberry and delicate spice, there's the merest hint of herb that I can't quite put my finger on, bay leaf or perhaps sage. The finish continues the delicate and pure theme with very fine grained tannins with notes of cracked black pepper and a hint of sweet spice.

The balance achieved through masterful blending, co-fermentation of the shiraz and viognier grapes, and partial maturation in old, seasoned oak barrels really is quite exquisite.
