2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Domaine Lécheneaut
At the everyday drinking end of the range this is a strong contender for the most exciting cuvée in our selection. The fruit, which is from Nuits-St-Georges vineyards, is stunning - soft, ripe, juicy and crunchy with a superb purity, a silky texture and a delicate tannic grip. This is gloriously moreish and a must-have for any pinot noir lover.
About the producer, Domaine Lécheneaut:
Philippe and Vincent Lécheneauts ten-hectare estate in Nuits-St-Georges was created in the 80s by père Fernand. An extensive range of the finest villages of the Côte de Nuits is produced here - perfect expressions of pinot noir rich, sumptuous and elegant, these are modern wines made with minimum intervention that combine purity of fruit with stunning terroir expression.
This wine is nice enough, but in common with many burgundy (reds), IMHO, for the money, a little disappointing and lacking in personality. Maybe should have been drunk younger - the wine that is.
This is a modern style pinot noir somewhat in the style of New Zealand wines. Well made, clean, fruity, decent body and length, but lacking personality or any particular attributes of terroir. Nose pretty restrained. Colour showing a little age. Perfectly nice Bourgogne Rouge, if a little dull. There are comparable regional pinot noirs available at a lower cost.
