ABOUT THIS WINE
Read Critic Reviews

Greenhough is considered one of the best producers in Nelson. This organic pinot noir delivers ripe fruit at lower alcohol with just a little bit of oak to allow the pure fruit to shine. There is a feel of Burgundy about it, but with an extra layer of depth and concentration and offering a lot more wine for your money. This is a classic New Zealand pinot with poise and balance that won't disappoint you.

Tasting Note
Perfumed and alluring on the nose - very pinot, with smoky, sweetish cherry and raspberry fruit. Intense, layered and textured on the palate with luscious red berry flavours and supple tannins.

What do the critics think?
“A blend of neighboring vineyards, the Stone's Throw Pinot Noir is exceptionally fragrant and silky, offering up hints of smoked bacon, various savory spices, floral notes and dark berries. It's medium-bodied, with delicate tannins that are just present enough to give the wine shape on the palate without interfering with its early consumption. Pretty and complex, it should be consumed over the next few years.”

Producer Information

Producer Information - Greenhough

In late 1990, a young couple left Auckland behind for a rural village in Nelson, encouragingly named Hope. Swapping city for country life, Andrew Greenhough and Jenny Wheeler took on a four-hectare property, determined to create something of their own. The original vineyard was established in the 1970s by a pioneer amateur winemaker, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau and Riesling. More than a quarter of a century later, the 4-hectare adventure has expanded to 13 hectares; the Müller-Thurgau is long gone and the vineyards are now certified organic; the majority of their wines are not fined, making them vegan friendly.
