2023 Sauvignon de Touraine, Domaine Bellevue
Domaine Bellevue has been Mr.Wheeler's 'house' sauvignon for as long as I can remember, and with my first taste of the new vintage I was reminded of exactly why. Hailing from the Touraine region in the central Loire, it's an excellent buy for lovers of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, bursting as it does with the unmistakable flavours of those two famous villages. Yet without the price-tag.
Patrick Vauvy's delicious cuvée seems to get better and better each year, and the current vintage effortlessly combines the ripe tropical fruit of this sun-drenched vintage with the pristine, zippy, citrus freshness we always look for in a Loire sauvignon.
An effortless delight when combined with goat's cheese, shellfish or prawns.

Beautifully balanced. Perfect for those of us who are bored of overly fragrant and light Sav Blanc. Has plenty of body and is smooth on the palate yet retains the fresh nose of a Sav Blanc. (previous vintage)
Delicious. This is a fleshy wine with a delicious taste of tropical fruit and greengage. Smoother than the more acidic New World wines. (previous vintage)
My wife loves Sauvignon and Im wary of NZ versions which often seem to have too much sugar for me so this is a great easy, every day, drinking wine that suits both of us. I'll keep buying it when its in stock. (previous vintage)
