2019 Burgundy En Primeur

It is always with a great degree of excitement that we welcome the latest releases from the region, and these superb 2019s are no exception. 2020 obviously brought along many challenges, not least organising tastings for these 2019 releases, so we are delighted to confirm that further to an important buying trip squeezed in by our resident Frenchman Ludo Surina, between two lockdowns, and a large number of cask samples being sent to our Langham offices, the team managed to taste the vast majority of cuvées.

We have picked out three of the star buys, below. However, if you can view the full range or have a read of our brochure.

Top 3 star buys from Burgundy 2019

2019 Chablis Envers de Valmur Vieilles Vignes, Domaine des Malandes

Made from grapes grown in a vineyard that looks downwards to the Grand Cru of the same name, this delightful wine shows hints of buttered toast on the nose and has a refreshing citrus backbone. It is beautifully made and demonstrates the classic minerality and mouth-watering acidity which signpost it for an exceptional future. Its shackles are loosening, and is remarkably approachable now, but tucked away it will evolve gloriously, and entice you to seek out some lobster to provide it with the perfect match

2019 Chablis Envers de Valmur Vieilles Vignes, Domaine des Malandes

2019 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Pinot Noir, Domaine Michel Magnien

A wonderful cocktail of sweet, ripe and juicy black fruit with earthy notes and a seductively soft texture, here is a gorgeous Bourgogne Rouge crafted from fruit with great provenance mostly Morey-Saint-Denis with helpings of Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée and given that even after the Chancellor has taken his cut, this will be nicely under the £20 mark, it is very much a no-brainer in this great vintage.

2019 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Pinot Noir, Domaine Michel Magnien

2019 Rully Montagne La Folie, Domaine Claudie Jobard

One of the runaway successes of our range in 2018, Claudie's Montagne La Jolie is just as impressive in 2019, with its buttery, creamy texture, its subtle notes of lime curd, and toasted hazelnut. The fine acid spine carries this elegantly through a long, mineral finish. This is very fine and once again offers magnificent value.
